Besides Bertina (cook and backstage organiser) and Huib (travel guide and manager of Merlelor) our team has two staff members and some extra day-labourers from our village. On the one hand we are able to provide work for the local community – on the other hand our co-workers create a typical Romanian atmosphere in our establishment. We also buy our agricultural products from town people. We want our guests to experience real life in Romania as much as possible. To this end our stud farm and its Romanian personnel provide ample opportunity.
Let us introduce our staff:
Is our technician, tractor operator and chauffeur. In Romania a tractor operator must not only know how to drive, but is required to qualify as a mechanic. Mihai is able to completely disassemble a tractor and (more important) to reassemble the parts again.
She loves animals and her dream was to own a “Flemish Giant” (largest breed of domestic rabbit) one day. We were able to fulfill her wish and brought her a fine specimen from the Netherlands. She assists with the horses, takes care for the dogs and is a great help with our building projects. Lucy is intelligent, boisterous and has a warm heart. She looks somewhat boyish and that is what she would likes best. She has nine sisters amongst whom Claudia, who works for us sometimes as day-labourer.
Don Lucy (38)
The mother of the ten daughters provides us with fresh eggs and gathers nuts, mushrooms and all sorts of wild berries.
During hay season we hire day-labourers from our village. We also work with people from all over the world, who come to work with us through the Woofing and HelpX programs.
