The riding area
Merlelor’s riding area is situated west of Braşov and north of the Carpathian mountains in Transylvania. There are fields and meadows but you also find bare land of which the owner is unknown. Vast forests, hills, meadows with wild flowers, villages and streams alternate in a stunning scenery.
In our riding area you find no fences as all herds of sheep, goats, cows and buffaloes are herded by shepherds and their dogs. We as horse riders love this area with no fences, but it might be a problem for a farmer. It happens that his crop is eaten by a herd that ran away from it’s shepherd. This happened quite often in 2012 because of the drought. It had not been raining for 5 months, so there was a huge shortage of provender. There even were fights during the night for protecting the crop.
All in all Romania is a country made for horse riding where life goes back in time for at least 70 years .
